AMMINO: Advancing Menopause and Menstral Health in Organisation

About the Study

In 2023, our research team collaborated with Thee Scottish Government's Women's Health Plan and NHS Scotland to undertake the worlds largest study of menopause and menstrual  health at work to date. 'Advancing Menopause and Menstrual Health in Organisations (AMMInO): A National Study of Employees in Health and Social Care' heard from over 6000 employees across the nation to explore their experiences

The report, which can be downloaded for free here recieved wisespread coverage with the MAPLE model of practical support for menopaue and menstruation in the workplace being used across a numbr of organizations.

Key Findings

  • 85% agreed that Menstruation should be explicitly referred to in a number of general workplace policy and practice

  • 51% would tell a line manager if they were experiencing disruptive menstrual symptoms

  • 42% had heard menopause being openly discussed in the workplace in the past year of those in male dominated environments compared to 63% overall 

  • 27% of  staff in Bands 1-4 felt they had adequate workplace facilities to attend to their menopausal needs compared to 64% overall. 

  • The top 5 areas that create a supportive enviroment for menopaue and menstrution are Microaccomodaitons, visible Allyship, consideration of Physical Environment, supporting Line Management, and Education and Awareness.
