About the Study

We were delighted to collaborate with The Menopause Cafe Charity and Founder Rachel Weiss for this study exploring the health and wellbeing benefits of Menopause Cafes for attendees and hosts.

From the 1st of October, you can read the Report here and access some free infographics to support you if running a Menopause Cafe in your workplace. There are also lots of great resources at The Menopause Cafe Website.

Key Findings

  • Menopause cafes support better health and wellbeing through Care, Connection, and Collaboration. Care provides a space for self-reflection and the ‘permission’ to seek medical support. Connection breaks down the isolation and loneliness often associated with menopause by building community. Collaboration empowers attendees to move from being passive recipients of information to feeling part of a collective that can enact change in their own lives.

  • 32% of attendees engaged with a healthcare professional about their menopause for the first time after attending a Menopause Café.

  • Adapting the World Health Organization (WHO) Wellbeing Index shows that attending Menopause Cafes improves self-reported health and wellbeing by over 8 percentage points.

  • Menopause Cafes rely heavily on the emotional and unpaid labour of volunteers, predominantly women. Hosts often face significant "hidden" work, such as managing logistics, advertising, and moderating intense emotional discussions.

  • As a result of attending a Menopause Café, 50% of attendees said they had talked to their partner of friend about their menopause in more depth than before.
